Navigating Life's Challenges

Maps Spiritually Integrated Mood Management Program

12-week group begins Monday, April 7th, 6:15-7:45pm
Location: Maps Keene Office, 23 Central Square, Suite 300

Facilitated by Barnes Peterson, LCMHC, who is new to Maps but a familiar clinician in the Monadnock region as he has offered mindfulness-based programming during the past 30 years at the agencies in which he has previously served: Monadnock Family Services, Keene State College, NH Catholic Charities, and the Cheshire County Department of Corrections.

Maps Counseling Services is accredited by the Solihten Institute and we share the mission of providing spiritually integrated psychotherapy that includes mind, heart, body, spirit, and community. There is a growing body of research demonstrating that integrating spirituality in psychotherapeutic services consistently produces positive treatment outcomes such as a greater sense of meaning and purpose, a more positive worldview, increased resilience, reduced stress, and the strengthening of hope, compassion, gratitude, and inner peace.

Our Mood Management Program integrates elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy in which Barnes is trained, and the participant’s spiritual beliefs, values, and practices to further enhance mood management. Though the forms of spirituality that participants practice may range from traditional forms of religious spirituality to nontraditional or secular forms of spirituality, we will openly and respectfully explore together how we can draw upon spiritual resources to enrich all dimensions of our lives.

INTAKE ASSESSMENT
The program begins with a comprehensive intake assessment with a special focus on the participant’s mental health history and mood management skills.

ORIENTATION SESSION
A second individual session will fully orient participants to the 12-week group program with a special focus on the participant’s spirituality and spiritual resources. Participants will be encouraged to set clear intentions for holistic well-being during the program including devoting 45 minutes daily to mood management and spiritual practices.

12-SESSION GROUP
Each group includes mindfulness and emotion regulation practices, a review of weekly homework, the presentation of program content, and discussions about utilizing mindfulness skills and spiritual resources in daily life.

INDIVIDUAL CLOSURE AND INTEGRATION SESSION
After the completion of the group, participants will meet individually with Barnes to discuss the group experience and to set intentions for the continuation of mood management and spiritual practices.
