The 3 topics to be covered are: Requirements for Clinical Record-Keeping: From the Basic to the Complicated; Ethical Challenges in Mental Health Practice Presented by the Use of Technology; and Exploring Ethical Obligations: Boundaries, Confidentiality and Mandated Reporting.
The course objectives are:
– Explore the legal and ethical requirements of clinical record keeping
– Highlighting ethical challenges in clinical record keeping
– Discuss the realities of busy professionals as it relates to clinical record keeping
– Explore the ethical challenges related to video/tele therapy services, as well as extra-office communications through texting, emailing, and app-based communications.
– Special attention will be paid to interactions with clients in virtual spaces that were not previously considered, because they were not technologically possible
– Exploration of boundaries, confidentiality and mandated reporting
– Provide a framework to contemplate ethical dilemmas and make informed decisions that insulate professionals from legal liability while protecting clients from harm
